New OCT technology at Total Eyecare!!

Total Eyecare is proud to announce the purchase of an OCT.

We are pleased to inform you that during your next visit to Total Eye Care, you may experience the benefits of the latest technology in eye exams—the OCT.  Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) scans the back of your eye, the retina, giving cross sectional images of tissue mere microns in size .  The result is that we can better detect, diagnose and monitor both macular degeneration and glaucoma than previously early methods available.

Any routine eye exam should always include a careful look at the retina, which is located at the back of the eye, to screen for abnormalities or disease.  The sensitive tissue that makes up the retina is susceptible to a variety of diseases that can ultimately lead to partial loss of vision or even complete blindness.  Early detection of any retinal abnormality is crucial. 

The OCT is simple and can last from anywhere between two to ten minutes.  To obtain the best image possible, dilation is often required.   Experience with this technology has already led to improved disease detection and has possibly prevented vision loss and blindness in patients.

Any patient who is diagnosed with either Macular Degeneration or Glaucoma should have this test performed.  A baseline or starting scan is recommended so that we may monitor your eye health and detect any subtle changes, which can get you into a specialist sooner hopefully before a problem is noted.

As with all new technologies today, Manitoba Health will not cover cost of the OCT.
