Progressive lenses...My last eye examination resulted in new glasses, of the progressive kind. I do a lot of reading at work and am taking a course so have lots of reading at home and am finding that the progressives are more than a pain in the neck. Is there any reason why I shouldn't consider getting some single-vision reading glasses? Would this be detrimental to my eyesight?

Pat,
Reading glasses are a great idea. In the long run many progressive patients own some form of "reader". Some like to combine the computer distance with the reading power in a specialized near work pair; others like having a straight reader. Even bifocals are used so you have the bigger reading area but can look up at distant objects.
I am a progressive wearer and defintely concur - they are great for everyday and some reading but many of us need a larger reading area for longer periods of time, (oh, and no, they won't harm your vision!)
