Question: What is CVS and should I be concerned about it?
Answer:

CVS or Computer Vision Syndrome is a set of conditions brought on by prolonged time spent on the computer with the increased use of computers at work, school and for recreation.  CVS can affect 50 - 90% of computer users.  Symptoms include eyestrain, blurred vision, headaches, dry and irritated eyes, neck and/or backaches and light sensitivity.

It is important if you are a regular computer user that you have regular eye examinations and wear a correction suited to your day to day tasks.  Proper lighting in the work environment is necessary as well as good posture.  Sit up straight in a chair with good back support, and have your wrists and hands straight out from your elbows on the keyboard.  Make sure that your computer monitor has stable images, is free from dust and smudges and that the contrast from background to the characters is high.  Ensure that you look away from the monitor regularly, take regular breaks and make a concious effort to blink regularly.

Take these simple steps, and you can prevent or eliminate the symptoms of CVS.
